KNOWING THE LORD AND HIS WILL

Lesson 3

By Paul O. Nichols

Jesus Christ The Savior

Before the birth of Jesus it was prophesied,  ...He shall save His people from their sins  (Matthew 1:21). John the Baptist told the people one day as Jesus approached,  Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world   (John 1:29). And Jesus said of Himself,  ...The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost   (Luke 19:10).

For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; Him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever He shall say unto you. (Acts 3:22 - Reference to: Deuteronomy 18:15).

Jesus Came to Save

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved   (John 3:16-17).  Jesus saith... I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.   (John 14:6).  And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life...   (John 6:40).

Jesus The Ransom

Jesus Christ  came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many   (Matthew 20:28).  ...He appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself   (Hebrews 9:26).  By His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us   (Hebrews 9:12).

The Blood of Jesus Was Shed For Sin

Without shedding of blood is no remission   (Hebrews 9:22, See Leviticus 17:11). On the night of His betrayal Jesus said, while instituting the Lord's Supper:  This is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins   (Matthew 26:28)  In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins   (Colossians 1:14).

Jesus Not Guilty Of Sin

God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh   (Romans 8:3).  For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him   (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus  was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin   (Hebrews 4:15).  Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth   (I Peter 2:22). Yes, Jesus was holy, innocent, and without deceit or guile (See Isaiah 53).

Jesus The Redeemer

All have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God; Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus   (Romans 3:23-24).   Therefore if anyman be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new   (2 Corinthians 5:17).  In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace   (Ephesians 1:7).  ...Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood   (Revelation 1:5).  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by Him do believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.   (I Peter 1:18-21).

No Salvation Except Through Jesus

Jesus said,  ...No man cometh unto the Father, but by Me   (John 14:6). Again He said,  No man can come to Me except the Father which hath sent Me draw him, and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, AND THEY SHALL BE ALL TAUGHT OF GOD. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto Me   (John 6:44-45).  Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them   (Hebrews 7:25).

And for this cause He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance   (Hebrews 9:15).

Summary

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. And man was not able to save himself from sin. But because God is not willing for any to perish and because God loved us, He sent His Son to die for our sins. Hence, Jesus gave His life and shed His blood to redeem us from sin. Yes, Jesus fulfilled all prophecies of the Old Covenant. And when Jesus came and died for our sins, His blood likewise served to remove the sins of those who lived prior to His crucifixion those faithful ones, who by sacrificing bulls and goats, had their sins rolled forward year by year.

Under the Old Law of Moses  every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins   (Hebrews 10:11). Yes, God promised A New Covenant to replace the Old Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34). And so,   SACRIFICE AND OFFERING AND BURNT OFFERINGS AND OFFERINGS FOR SIN THOU HAST HAD NO PLEASURE. THEN SAID I, LO, I COME TO DO THY WILL, O GOD, He taketh away the first, that He may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all  (Hebrews 10:8-10).  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross...Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ   (Colossians 2:14, 16-17). Therefore, today, we can be saved forever by the grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
